Why we exist

Understanding without judgment

A childhood curiosity about fear grew into a collection of phobia names—and then into Conquer Phobias.

How it started

The idea began with a discovery in childhood: people could be afraid of things far beyond the familiar examples of spiders or heights. That curiosity led to documenting every phobia name that turned up. Over time, the collection became the starting point for this website.

Collecting names raised more questions. What do these fears feel like? When does a fear become a phobia? And do all those names really describe a medical condition? Conquer Phobias exists to explore those questions and make the answers easier to understand.

Our approach

You might be here because something scares you more than you can explain. Or you might want to understand a friend or family member. Either way, we want you to find clear answers and feel comfortable asking questions.

Our guides explain what a fear can feel like, how it can affect daily life, and what help can involve. When a name is mainly an internet term, we say so.

Short explanations, in writing and on video

The written library is the heart of the site. We are also preparing short educational explainers for the Conquer Phobias YouTube channel. The channel is new, and videos are not available yet.

You can read the full explanation, follow the sources, and take things at your own pace.

Curiosity with care

We're here to help you learn. A doctor or therapist is the right person to assess your symptoms and discuss care. You can read more about our sources, review process, and use of AI in our editorial policy.
